Commerce in the United States


The Chinese American Association of Commerce in the United States is a non-profit organization registered with the California government in the early years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. It is mainly composed of patriotic overseas Chinese businessmen. The English name is Chinese American Association of Commerce (CAAC for short)

The purpose of this association is to promote the social welfare of the Chinese, promote Sino-US economic, trade and cultural exchanges, promote Sino-US friendship, and build a harmonious overseas Chinese community.

On February 5, 1980, the Association held its founding meeting and sworn in the first directors and staff. Feinstein, the then mayor of San Francisco (later a senator in Congress), attended the meeting and served as the administer of the oath; Hu Ding, the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, delivered a unanimous speech. In May of the same year, Chai Zemin, China's first ambassador plenipotentiary to the United States, visited the Association for the first time after taking office. Subsequently, with the assistance of the Consulate General, the association took the lead in organizing a delegation to China to inspect and discuss economic and trade cooperation. It was warmly received by Shanghai Mayor Wang Daohan and other local government leaders.

Since then, there has been an upsurge of overseas Chinese returning to their hometowns to invest in setting up factories and enterprises. In order to further promote U.S.-China economic and trade cooperation, the Association sent representatives to Washington, the capital, to attend the hearing on "On Granting China Most Favored Nation Treatment". He spoke in support of President Bush's extension of China's Most Favored Nation Treatment and published an open letter in major newspapers. Later, he wrote a letter urging the U.S. Trade Delegation to negotiate rationally to deal with intellectual property issues between the United States and China. Give full play to the power of the private sector and strive to promote the interactive exchanges of Sino-US economic, trade and culture. It has received the Chinese economic delegation headed by Wang Shoudao and numerous groups visiting the United States from government departments of various provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

It also organizes Chinese teenagers to visit China to find their roots and overseas Chinese to return to their hometowns for sightseeing; sponsors and supports the cultural construction of local Chinese schools, holds the "Chinese Business Cup" youth calligraphy and painting competition, promotes traditional Chinese culture; and effectively promotes cultural exchanges between the two countries and Sino-US friendship.

For more than 40 years, our Association, in conjunction with the Patriotic Overseas Chinese League, has led the establishment of the "Overseas Chinese from all walks of life in the San Francisco Bay Area to celebrate the National Day of the People's Republic of China", the "Overseas Chinese from all walks of life in the San Francisco Bay Area Disaster Relief Committee", the "US-Western Committee to Support Beijing's bid to host the Olympic Games", "Spring Festival Gala for Overseas Chinese from all walks of life in the San Francisco Bay Area" and so on. Every year, we hold a series of activities such as the National Day flag-raising ceremony, all-overseas Chinese celebration banquet and Daqing parade; Spring Festival Gala; celebration of the return of Hong Kong and Macao; anti-independence and promotion of reunification; and disaster relief and epidemic prevention, and support for the construction of our ancestral (native) country. . Actively participate in safeguarding the rights and interests of overseas Chinese and strive to promote harmony and stability in overseas Chinese communities. Various activities of the association have received attention and recognition from the mainstream society in the United States and China, and have won support and praise from the Chinese community and the vast number of overseas Chinese.
